Soft Waves Afghan

She's all done.

Finito.
All mine.

If I ever say I want to make another afghan, just throw something at me to bring me to my senses please.

Taking on big projects is like labor to me. You forget how much time, pain, and angst you went through when you see that finished product. In both cases, the babies you create just make you forget it all. Zap! It's all gone!

All those arm cramps, all the pain of lugging this thing around while it grew and got heavier and heavier, all the times I wondered when it would just be over with. All those blasted hours I spent yesterday to Just. Get. It. Done.

In the end you have this wonderful thing that is too precious for words and you have to go snuggle. So. I shall go snuggle now....

Pattern: Soft Waves from the book 200 Ripple Stitch Patterns
(Yarns used are on my Rav project page).
Size H crochet hook
Time: Almost a year to finish. Yikes.

Koodies

It's funny. I've read about people being so sick with colds & flu's for the last few months and I've felt VERY fortunate to have avoided any of that so far.

Then this week The Big Guy got sick and spread his koodies to ME, and I didn't even get a KISS for it to happen! Bummer.

We just have colds, it could be worse I know, but I can see he feels as miserable as I do, and yet he won't stay home from work to REST, which in turn, STRESS-ES me out! Thank goodness it's Friday or I'd have to whack him across the head! I told him to stay home today, but nope, he's not here.

Not a lot of knitting happening, I have a couple of pairs of socks going, but I did drag the BIG bag out of the closet and pulled out my sadly neglected Soft Waves Afghan. (It's been on my sidebar for almost a year now). Because nothing really will change yarn-wise or space-wise in the closet if this doesn't ever get done.

I went from 30% up to 40%, and now I'm probably at 60%. It's getting harder to work on because it's getting so heavy so I think it'll end up being more of a little "lapghan" size. I'm SO ready to be done with it. And as slow as I'm going now I can't believe I got as much done on it before I stuffed it back in the closet!

Dang, I'm going to be one cranky old lady if I keep getting so impatient with everything anymore!

One fun thing for me has been watching the "One Hit Wonders of the 80's" on VH1 the last few nights. Oh the memories. Even sick I can shake my booty when I hear certain songs....LOL!

Cranky. Sick. Koodie-ville. TGIF.
Back to my hooking....

Sometimes a change is good...

Lately I've been crocheting more than I've been knitting. I sometimes need a change (notice my blog keeps changing? LOL!) to keep me in a happy place. Certain MEN (my husband) would say it's because I'm a woman. hmpf.

I had several skeins of yarn that I had set aside to make a Patchwork Afghan from Lion Brand's site. I first saw it in a catalog they sent me (a couple of years ago?) and I fell in love! Later I thought "can I really knit 100 squares without losing my mind?" And then later as brain cells were actually functioning in a faster mode, I thought about all those "ends" that would need to be woven in. Oy. Not going to happen in a million years no matter how much I love that afghan.

All that yarn has been in my closet for a long time now so I finally pulled it out and decided on a ripple afghan using Jan Eaton's pattern "Soft Waves" in the book 200 Ripple Stitch Patterns . It's not going to be a huge monster, probably just a simple back of the couch kind of "catch all the cat hair" kind of blankee. I used the Random Stripe Generator to develop some ideas and while I'm not using it "exactly", I'm working from parts of different designs to make it easier than picking colors randomly on my own. I'm so indecisive, it would never happen without it so I'm thankful that it's available.

I have to take breaks with this project though, I must sit totally still when I crochet now because there's one spot on my back (on the right side between my shoulder blades) that tenses up like crazy when I crochet this. Time for some yoga (and knitting).

The Big Guy has caught that summer cold that's going around. He seems okay as long as he takes his Tylenol Cold. Poor Guy. I hate when he's sick, but luckily it's the weekend and he's been able to get some rest. I can't get him to stay home from work if my life depended on it, so it hitting last Friday was the best time it could've popped up.

Today was a good day to lay low, we had some thunderstorms come by that sounded like they'd crack my house in two. Yes, this southern weather will never cease to scare the beejeebee's out of me.

Stay well and knit - or crochet on.
