I Don't Even Know....

how to title this post because I'm still puzzled on how I did this.

And I'm embarrassed to say that the big "revelation" didn't come until I was about to start the TOE shaping!!

See the big ugly "splotch" on my sock? Well, so did I. Ewwww. But I kept going. Hello? Anybody have any smart pills??

This didn't happen on the first sock I made, but I just kept knitting along and then decided to "cut" (which I HATE to do on socks!) and reattach the yarn to break up some of the pooling (ahem, 3 or 4 times -see the piles of yarn on the couch?). All in all it was still looking pretty ugly.

Then all of a sudden....it dawned on me: "COUNT THE STITCHES".

I knit my socks magic loop style now and I knit different stitch counts depending on the yarn. For this sock I used 64 sts and therefore should've had 32 on both needles to proceed down the foot. Well, I had 36 on one and 32 on the other. Yea, you see where this is going. It's amazing what havoc 4 extra stitches can cause.

Out of probably 30 or so pairs of socks I've made so far, and my experiences in the past with changing cast-on's due to ugly pooling, this was the first time I totally messed up on the gusset decreases! You'd think it would've dawned on me SOONER to consider WHY it was pooling so bad!

It's kind of funny NOW when I think about how long it took me to figure this out. But I wasn't laughing yesterday when I realized what I'd done and started tinking back 40 plus rows....

Now I'm back on track. At least I hope so.....

Oh, shoot forgot to mention I finally made a hair appt. Haven't been to this gal but was referred to her. I go Friday. You're the only one who knows. James and Jimmy will be fishing so they'll see it on the blog too! I'm really nervous, my voice was all shaky when I called and I'll probably have to take a diahrea pill before I even go!:) Hopefully it'll turn out cute and not look like a boy!

OMgosh! Are you gonna chop it off?? Crazy! You're making ME nervous! LOL!! I can't wait to see it though! Remember, it's just HAIR and WILL grow back!

Yep, the other sock striped nicely, but the pooling was so obvious on this one! I'm such a dork! LOL! I've already tinked back and have started re-knitting. Hopefully I'll be done soon! ;O)

Yeah I'm going to chop it off. I want to donate it to Locks for Love and they have to have at least 10 in.! I keep thinking on cancelling though. Wish I could make my mind up and just go and do it instead of having to wait. Although I wear a ponytail every day and I think this is wearing on my hair. Gotta go drink some peppermint tea to calm my stomach. Maybe I should call and see if she has any immediate appts.? I'm so used to asking if things will look good etc. like to James and I'm not saying anything to anyone. He likes it anyway I wear it but still I like approval and I hate making decisions.

blog post tomorrow of more sock yarn!:) Woolgirls club next year is $275 geez luweeze. Thats my Christmas and birthday present!

Well, you've been going back and forth on this for awhile now. I say just do it this once and I promise you it will grow back! :O) Ponytails aren't very good for your hair! They Do cause damage! Hormone's could be the culprit too, you should check with your gyno or a derm. doctor!
Or be like me and never figure out why! LOL!!! I just figured it was part of aging but now I wonder if it's linked to all the other problems I've had going on over the years.....

WOWWWW! That's steep but I know that other clubs are just as expensive!! It sure must be fun to get those packages tho! I'm going to have to live vicariously thru you, my budget has gotten tighter with all the darn things we had to fix around here lately! I can't wait to see what you get tho! ;O)

UGH! I hate when I make mistakes like that! Reminds me of that sock I knit for my friend that was two steps forward and a bazillion steps back. Speaking of knitting, I have to knit a couple pairs of socks by Christmas. I haven't knit in so long, I bet they'll be mistakes galore! Hope the socks are back on track now! ((HUGS))

Anna, you can do it for sure!! I know you're super busy now, but I bet you get at least one done!

I hadn't knit a pair in awhile and my brain fog was maxed out with these socks! I forgot how to work the yarn around the magic loop needle! I forgot where I started the decreases for the gusset! I was a mess! :P

But you've got WAY more brain cells than me!;O) I wish I could keep up with your pace!... as I rush off to read more of your reviews...! (((Big Hugs at ya!)))
