Stormy Weather

We had some crazy storms come through yesterday. Living in California most of my life with earthquakes never unnerved me more than these "tornado watches" we have here. Every single time it happens I can understand why I have so much gray hair now. It scares the beejeebees out of me. When the TV starts beeping and you see "Seek shelter, go to an innermost room or basement of your home..yadda yadda yadda" I kind of lose my composure. An earthquake rocks you, you don't get swept away with your house (okay, unless you're living on a hill by the ocean). I don't think I'll ever get used to it... (watching the Wizard of Oz all those years growing up probably didn't help much either come to think of it!) I'm just grateful that we're okay so far and that we don't have anymore huge trees surrounding us in our new home. I've seen a big oak go right thru the middle of someone's house. Trust me, not pretty.

Anyway, my knitting mojo is slightly better lately. I started a simple diagonal stitch scarf pattern that I found on Ravelry.

This yarn is Colinette Tao. It's 100% silk and one of the goodies that I splurged on when my LYS went out of business. Since I first got it I've been trying to find a pattern that worked well with it. The reason is the colorway, it's called "Moss" and it's mostly a pretty sagey, silvery colorway but there are also "pinkish" spots mixed in it. They make it look like I've spilled Kool-Aid on myself by accident when the pattern is too closely knit. I finally decided that opening it up may help and it does. I just hope it blocks okay. I'm still not sure how to treat this, it says to "hand wash" and I don't usually wear anything until I've cleaned it, but this may be a "spritzer" one because I'm just to chicken to emerse "silk" in water! I'm also going to knit it shorter than I usually would to compensate for any stretching. That seems to be a famous trait of silk as well. We shall see. I just hope I don't ruin it! Oh yea, to knit with this...it's a DREAM (especially after that Malabrigo, oy).

It's like Buttahh.

I also started some stash socks out of some All Things Heather. This particular one is a merino/tencel blend that I picked up at my LYS - The Yarn Haven.

I'm really not sure about how this looks knit up. The colors just look so..so.. . (And my terrible pictures don't help!) Honestly, It looked a LOT prettier in the hank. I know it's not one of the "great" ones when neither of my girls is asking me twenty million times "Can I have those?" I do like that it's smooth and it's also firmer than usual sock yarns (it's the tencel) but I'm still knitting it up on my size 1 circ. (Magic Loop AGAIN! I'm SOOO addicted.) Maybe I should've overdyed it....oh well. I'll wear them.

This is probably the 4th pair of socks I've started. I know it shouldn't be so hard but I'm very indecisive these days. I've searched Ravelry to death with my stash yarns, and yes, I have found things, but even when I start something I lose my oomph for some reason. I'm going to finish these though. I just have to finish something! Maybe then this spell will be broken!

I AM doing well with my walking though (Yea ME!). At least there's something that's working out! I've also quit drinking soda again (Yea ME AGAIN!!). With my gallbladder acting up it just seemed like it would help.

It's very late so I'm going to shut up and go to bed. Happy Knitting.

PS. Julie, I'm so jealous that you're going to Rome!!!! You need to call me with all the details!! (And bring me a cute italian guy home! ) ahahahah! Just kidding!!!!! Laurie had a blast there when she got to go. You gotta take a million pictures!

What a beautiful scarf....I love the color...Well, I hope the weather is better. It is crazy over here. We were in the 90s during the weekend, even went to MaryAnn's and BBQ and swam. Now today it is chilly and windy...I know what you mean about those tornados. I have ALWAYS been afraid of them and I know for sure it has to do with the Wizard of Oz...UGH...I can just hear that music and see the witch flying around with her monkies. Well, not much more is going on. I know I have told you that I cut back on my working and I am a little bored. But I have been doing alot of yardwork. OMG...you should see all of my plants. They are blooming like crazy. I also painted my office and next weekend I am going to work on putting the chair-rail up...so I have been keeping busy. School is good and work is good. I requested to be transferred to the pathology dept. They have a F/T posted but come to find out they want P/T. But I talked to them and they have not had any response so my chances look good for a F/T...so keep your fingers cross. Well, I guess that is about it for now. Hugs and kisses to you and good going on the walking. It does feel good to be a little more physical. I can feel it on my muscles after this weekend, but now I have to work on more of a routine..hahahahaha....okay well maybe I will blog something tonight...love ya lots, YBF

The first summer after I moved to MD from CT there were a few tornado warnings and my daughter and I were scared ****less because my husband was always working at night and that's when they'd happen. I feel for you on this.

I love that scarf. The silk looks dreamy.

As for the socks, I think they look good so far!
